Both bad and good. Read all:
Not recommended for G-series lenses (2000 and newer) without aperture ring. I bought this with the intention of using with my large telephotos lenses that normally serve as wildlife lenses. It’s useless for that. The old ZWO forum was full of requests to add an aperture control tab, or at least an override to open to max aperture. ZWO Support frequently responded that it wasn’t a highly requested feature, so they would not be adding it. There are ways to override it yourself, but they involve a risk of introducing unwanted debris to your lens, so I won’t share that here.
Additionally, newer (2017) Nikon AF-P lenses require power from the camera in order to focus, including manual focus. It will not work at all with P-series lenses.
Now that I’ve bashed it, let me get to the good. It has absolutely rock-solid lock up to my lenses, both Nikkor and third-party. If you have fast manual Samyang, Rokinon, etc., lenses, then this adapter is fantastic. If ZWO was up-front about the fact that it wouldn’t work with newer Nikon lenses, and I knew before purchase that it would only work with manual aperture control lenses, I would have still considered it a great buy and given it a solid five stars. As-is, where I was under the initial impression that it would easily override the aperture tab, I can only give three. A simple google search (that I should have done first) uncovered dozens of threads on the old forum where dozens of users requested the aperture tab, but ZWO consistently said “no.” For that, I have to lower my opinion to two stars. But still, if you already have any of the manual Korean lenses or old Nikkor D-series lenses, this is an absolute game changer. Seriously, ZWO, just add a line to your description saying it doesn’t work with G series lenses, and I’ll update my review to a solid 5 star. Or release a version with aperture control and I’ll buy that, too.
